My yoga exploration story...

... started in the morning after the Halloween-night of 2017 in Toronto. Since some time my friend was telling me how great yoga is and I wanted to try it long ago. But this morning I woke up with a hangover and thought yoga will help me. Seriously! I don't even remember if it did, but from that day on it stuck with me.
At that time, I was a young adult working on my career and recovering from some personal trouble, dealing with anxiety and sleeplessness. I was trying to use yoga (and whole bunch of other things) to simply calm down my monkey mind and just help me to fall asleep. I don't know if it was yoga that did, but it stuck with me even more.
As time was passing by, I kept regularly arriving on the mat, and noticed growing acceptance of reality around me, and myself. I felt better connection of my body and mind, and increasing awareness of thoughts and emerging beautiful self-love. And it was a restorative hour in my hectic days, a stable event in an ever changing reality.
What does the practice mean for me actually?
Yoga is for me a tool for body-and-mind connection, awareness of the signals that my body sends me, ability to listen to what it wants to tell me - it helps me to have a more hollistic feeling as a human being.
Secondly, it keeps me in a good physical shape, providing a balance between strength and flexibility. One of my ways to contribute to my healthy and happy senior life.
Moreover, my practice is for me a mental relaxation, way to deal with stress, self-care and self-love. Something that everybody needs every day.
Also, through yoga and it's philosophy I discovered many truths in life: acceptance of reality with more peace, aknowledging that I am exactly where I need to be, noticing how everybody is different and how important it is, learning to be kind to myself and others.
What has pushed me to deepen my practice and explore yoga?
Two things. A new colleague at work that has just came back from a Yoga Teacher Training and was starting her first yoga classes; and coronavirus lockdown.
My colleague's relation from her journey and YTT fascinated me. Her first yoga class as a teacher was my first not-at-home yoga practice ever. I was cheerleading through her preparations and first couple of classes. It filled me with great excitement and we had a lot of conversations about yoga.
It was more or less at the same time of the first COVID-19 lockdown. Working from home, not being able to go out or meet friends was heavy on me, yoga was helping me to survive this time. And that is when I bought my first books, started getting more interested and explore everything related to yoga.
One day, when we are all able to travel again and I feel the right vibe to do it, I will take my YTT and live this amazing experience. Maybe I will become a teacher, but I keep all options open. Now I am enjoying this fun process and growing in my own way into the yoga-world. Writing this blog is one of the fun ways to engage with like-minded people and share the passion and ideas, start discussions and maybe even projects!
